Power vs. Truth: The Harrowing Reality of Caste-Based Injustice

This is the story of the backward thinking of today's society, which has studied but could not free itself from conservative thinking. The story is of a government school in Jalore, a small village in Rajasthan. It describes the backward thinking of today's society and its thinking about casteism. Rajasthan, which is known for its royal style, had a small village in the same state, which had a teacher, Suresh, in a government school, who was very vocal about caste. The things that are said about his caste make those people join Suresh, who believe a lot in caste, but were silent due to law and order. Those who suppress their thinking think that if someone complains against them, they will lose their job. But Suresh is not afraid of anything because his background is with very friendly people. In his eyes, he is not even afraid of the law. After a few days, Suresh separated the children of his younger aunt and the children of the upper caste in the family. He kept a separate place for them to play, drink water, defecate, etc. Seeing him, two or three teachers also supported Suresh. The atmosphere of the school started looking like that of years ago. Children of lower castes were treated as untouchables, as if coming in contact with them would cause some disease. Teachers used to check everyone there, but the children of lower castes were not checked much. They did not touch any of their things. Those children were made to clean the school and the toilets together. When the parents of the children came to the school, they said that if they made the children do work, the teachers did not even talk to them properly. They said, if you are so concerned about the children, then get them educated in a private school. If they have to study here, they will have to work. Only the parents think. They are unable to say anything further. Because they do not have so much money that they can educate them in a private school. Therefore, the children also get upset and study in the same school. One day, the water for the children runs out at night in the school. A 6-year-old child was upset with love. He wanted to drink water from the children of the upper caste. The children stopped him. Then he looked towards the staff room. There was no one there. He thought that there was no one and no one was watching me. He drank the water in that pot. At the same time, Suresh came there. He saw that child drinking water. At first, he did not say anything. Then he came to know that he was a child of a lower caste. So he started beating him. He kept slapping and kicking him. When he became completely mad, he told that child that you are a worm of life, will you drink our water? He beats that child very badly. He also gets injury marks at many places, but he beats the child till he stops crying. He beats that child and goes away. The child lies there; he does not even move. When other children at the school try to wake him up, he does not get up. Then some children take him to his home. When the parents of that child see the child being lifted by other children, they run towards him and take their child in their lap. They call out to him. Veeru says, "Get up, son," but Veeru doesn't get up. They take him to the doctor. The doctor declares him dead. When his parents think about what happened, the children say that the new teacher has beaten him a lot because he had drunk water from their pot. Veeru's parents go to the child's school to talk to the teacher about why he beat the child, and if he did, he beat him so much that he lost his life. Many people from lower castes gather and go to school with them, but the teacher, seeing the crowd, first calls the police, then meets those people. The policeman is also investigating the teacher. To calm the crowd, he talks about taking Suresh to the police station in the school. Everyone calms down, now he will be punished. But the policeman releases him before taking him to the police station. When people come to know about this, they go back to the police station and complain Why didn't you put that teacher in jail? This is why a child died or the policeman scares those people. Why are you getting into legal trouble? The one who had to go has gone. Why are you sitting idly, leaving your work? Take care of your home, pay attention to your family, listen to me, this is law and justice. All this happens on TV, but not in reality. He is a big man; he has connections at the top, and you cannot do anything to him even if you want to. And many children in school have seen him beating Veeru. Police say, which testimony of children from your own community, their testimony will not work. Who knows, you people have taken out some grudge on Suresh, and all of you want to get caught in it. If any child is not of our caste and if he testifies, I will put Suresh in jail. Now those people understood that we cannot do anything because they will never lose their side. They come back from there disappointed. Police know who is doing it.He is doing this to save Suresh. He is afraid that what is wrong may happen. If this reaches the higher authorities, he might lose his job. Now he starts trying to save Suresh and himself. On the other hand, some media people have also started making news on this. Due to which he has to write an FIR, in which he states that the reason for the death was the fight between the children. Then the tricks of Suresh and the police start. First of all, they went to the families of those children who said that they had seen Suresh. While beating the child, the police men threaten them. If they testify, those children will not be able to study. Not only in this school, but you will not be able to study anywhere. You people will not get work anywhere; it will become difficult for you to even feed yourself. Suresh's men make their lives miserable. They get their electricity and water supply cut off, due to which they get upset. Suresh's men come the next day and threaten them again. If they do not listen, it will become difficult for them to live in the village. No one will give you work. Anyway, they were facing a lot of problems supporting Veeru's parents. They did not want to face much trouble, so slowly they started distancing themselves from the parents of the child Veeru. Now, only Veeru's parents are left for justice. The police also start pressuring them to withdraw their FIR because they know that if they do not withdraw the FIR, they will have to take action, which they want, that Suresh should be punished. If they do not take action, they may lose their jobs. Therefore, they start harassing Veeru's parents to pressurize them to withdraw the FIR as soon as possible. They send their men to Veeru's house every day, to harass them; they start throwing things in their house, sometimes they burn their clothes. When even after doing all this, their matter is not settled, then one day, why does Veeru's father start beating and misbehaving with his mother? They tell them to go and complain about this, too. Even after going to a big office and being harassed by the daily atrocities, they were not ready to bow down before them. It seems as if they are alive only for justice. To get justice, they have taken the help of newspapers. Due to which this incident came to the attention of the people and reached the top. Now, the pressure on the police started increasing. To solve this case, the police have to take action even if they don't want to. But Suresh says, Give me one day. Either this case will end, or I will be sent to jail. Suresh goes to talk to Veeru's parents for the last time to save himself. He convinces them to take back their complaint, and he will give them money in return. If they don't listen to Suresh, then Suresh starts showing his power. He ties Veeru's father to the wall with his mother's saree, and even then, he closes the mouth of the mother who is still holding back with a cloth. Both of them start running quickly. They were not able to understand what he wanted to do to free themselves. They thought that now he is going to kill both of them, or he is going to set their house on fire, and both of them will burn to death. But Suresh does not do anything like this. He had something else on his mind. He rapes Veeru's mother in front of Veeru's father. And tells him to go and complain. Now I am ready to face punishment. I also accept my crime. I did not want to kill that child. He drank water from my pot, which I did not want. Seeing him do this, I got angry and I could not control myself, due to which your son died. I explained to you so many times, but you did not understand anything. Now I have committed this crime intentionally. Now, where do you want to go? Go and do whatever you want. Veeru's parents were still not able to recover from this accident when suddenly everything ended for them. Now they did not want to insult themselves further, so both of them committed suicide. Suresh himself goes to the police station because the police had arrested Suresh before this accident. Now, a rape case cannot be filed against Suresh and after their death, they get their thumb impression on a paper withdrawing the FIR and Suresh is proved to be completely innocent. Law and truth lose in front of power.
